Teen relationships can be hard! How do you know you are in a healthy relationship? What are some of the warning signs that your relationship may be an unhealthy one? Join the FLVS School Counselors and special guest presenter, Joshua Proffitt from the Victims Service Center of Central Florida as we observe Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. We will discuss what dating violence is, warning signs, and ways to have healthy and positive teen relationships. This session may discuss sensitive topics that are not suitable for every student. The program also keeps FCA members up to date on state legislative proposals that affect our profession. The Government Relations Program is involved in numerous activities. We will be working with legislators to introduce new legislation as well as to work to change existing legislation.

 The Florida Counseling Association and its seven divisions invite you to exhibit, advertise and/or be a sponsor at its annual convention.   There will be  several  hundred  counselors,  counselor  educators,  and  supervisors  from  schools,  mental  health  agencies,  private  practice, career settings, post-secondary technical schools, and colleges and universities represented. Counselors, counselor educators, and supervisors from across Florida attend the FCA convention.

A Message from FCA President, Kristie Knight:


Greetings FCA members and fellow counselors,


               I wanted to take this time to first and foremost extend my gratitude for the successes we have had during the 2016-2017 year. We have hosted Qualified Supervisor Trainings at multiple locations around the state, amazing Webinars, a successful annual Convention in Orlando, region networking events, and a plethora of other behind the scenes work and meetings that, can sometimes, not be known by the general membership but should be acknowledged. Some of those meetings spawned the development of our FCA Foundation that we are very excited to be starting up and this step is one that many leaders currently and in the past of FCA have strived to achieve and, now that it has come to fruition, we are ready to move forward and utilize the benefits of having a Foundation to better our Association as a whole. I wanted to personally thank every single leader that has helped to make this year so successful. We have grown in our membership numbers and have exceeded our own set goals for the year. I especially want to thank our, now Past-President, Anne Flenner, and our Past-Past President, Michelle Bradham-Cousar, for their roles in all of these amazing accomplishments and for their guidance and support in helping me to move into my new role as President.


               In regards to the word LEADERSHIP. I want to keep the momentum we have built for our association and continue to move forward, together, to build and develop the strongest association that we can. My main goal this year, as President, is to tap into our many amazing members and find their strengths and how they can join our leadership team. Whether, they would like to contribute by helping with a committee, editing our newsletter, assisting with social media, organizing networking events, etc. We have the most outstanding counselors around and they have a lot to offer and I am hoping to meet and speak with many of you this year in order to see where you fit into the leadership spectrum within FCA. I also want to support and empower our current leaders stepping into their new roles this year and assist them in keeping that same forward momentum going within their specific division or region. Finally, my last goal is to harness the extreme knowledge that we can find in our past leaders and the legacy they have left for us deserves to be cherished, honored, and their initial goals followed through as a whole team working together…emerging leaders, current leaders, and passed leaders.


              I am truly looking forward to an amazing year, especially with the leaders and members I have by my side. FCA is here to support all counselors in any way that we can and we are here for you and are so privileged to be able to call you colleagues, peers, friends, and even family as we work together to better the counseling profession locally, nationally, and even world-wide.
